Squeaky

Hello, my name is Hazel Elizabeth Deborah Parker but everyone calls me Squeaky Because I am a little girl with skinny arms and a squeaky voice. I love to race and run track and that's what I have been doing my whole life. It is not a race I always win my room is full of awards and gold medals. I am considered the fastest and most confident person on Earth. I have a pretty easy life I do not have much work to do except for look after my brother Raymond, and that is some work to do. Raymond is actually my older brother, but sometimes I call him my little brother but any one can see he is my big brother. I don't know why I have to look after Raymond or my little brother, I guess it is because he is as I would say mentally ill. I'm not the only one who can run my father can, and he actually beats me without even trying and giving me a head start, but other than him I'm the fastest kid out here, and Gretchen knows that. Gretchen is a second place winner who claims she will win first place medal this year, " In her dreams."

The Followers

Raymond and me are strolling down the broadway so I can practice my breathing exercises, and I got him walking on the inside of me towards the buildings because he has a habit of walking on the curb as if he is a circus performer on a tightrope and usually steps down and gets his shoes and cuffs wet getting me into trouble. He'll also dash into the street to pick with the pigeons. As we are strolling down broadway minding ourselves Gretchen and her so called crew or sidekicks I perfer. Mary Louise and Rosie who are just followers of Grecthen's. Mary Louise my old time friend stepped to me and asked "Are you signing up for May Day races ?" "What a dumb question why wouldn't I ?'' " Because you don't want Grecthen to beat you, but it does not matter even if you do race she is still going to win first place," said Rosie. " News flash girls I don"t lose I only win because I am the best and you both know that." Since they don't have a comeback to me they turn to Raymond and ask him what grade he is in knowing he's not that smart. " If you have something to say to my Brother you say it to me...ok."

Lucy number 7

After that they stood and looked at me and Raymond like we were crazy then walked away. Raymond and me just continue our stroll down broadway. YEAH!!! It is here May Day races I have been waiting for this so I can finally kick Gretchens butt. I did not rush to get there because the track meets are the last thing on the program, and May pole is the biggest event ever even though I can do with out it, but my mom wants me to act like a girl for once. She should be happy I am not getting new clothes dirty and sweaty trying to act like a fairy or flower or whatever you are supposed to be. I don't dance I run that is what I'm all about. So I come late to the program just in time to get my number pinned on and wait till they announce the fifty-yard dash. I also look after Raymond, I usually put him  in the little swings which is getting to tight. Then I look for Mr. Pearson, who pins the numbers on. Here comes Mr.Pearson with his pencil and clipboard, he checks my name off and hands me my number....7 my lucky number. "So Hazel, going to give someone else a break this year", Mr.Pearson asked me. I squint really hard at him to see if he is seriously thinking, I just went on to my race.

The Race

LIke I always do before a race I pretend as if I'm in a dream, the kind when you are sick and feel weightless. All the time I am dreaming this I get lighter and lighter until I am flying in the sky getting blown around like a feather in the sky. POW!!! The starting pistol sounds and I am off flying in front of all of the other racers as my blood is rushing. I am weightless and flying in the air, I look to my left to see if anyone was there no one was there. Then I look to my right and I catch a blurred image of Gretchen who thinks she will win this race. Oh my gosh Raymond is running along the fence trying to keep up with me, this is the first time I have seen my brother run. I almost stopped to watch, but the finish line was right in my view, I tear right past it. The man on the speaker, announces the first place winner but they can't me and Gretchen where neck and neck the men on the men on the speaker gathered there notes and announces that I was the first place winner and Gretchen in second. She walked up to me and congradtulates me on the win and smiles so did I, now we have respect for each other.
